The Lightkeeper

Calling all Writers and Artists!  Do you want your work published?

Read Below for Details!

Work like a lighthouse beam in the offshore darkness: vivid, luminous, striking, and –ultimately – enlightening.

Hello again, friends and neighbors!  I’m sort of annoyed, because I just wrote this post and lost it, but I’m going to do it again, because it’s worth it.

SO!  Basically, I’ve just been promoted to Editor-in-Chief of the Undergraduate Literary Journal of my college, Northern Michigan University.  (Yay!)  I’m taking over the ship in the middle of some rough seas, but it’s a good ship, and I want to do right by her.

The Lightkeeper was created a couple of years ago by a collaboration of crazy redheads and literature-lovers who didn’t think that NMU undergraduate students had adequate ways of showcasing their writing and creative endeavors.  The Lightkeeper accepts Fiction, Non Fiction, Poetry and Essay submissions, as well as art.  And it was plugging along well enough, until the end of last year, when a majority of the board graduated.

Now, we haven’t gotten any submissions in awhile, so we decided to shake things up and open our submissions to ANYBODY!   (Within the USA–sorry guys!)  Yup!  With an emphasis on the Great Lakes and Upper Peninsular areas, The Lightkeeper is now taking submissions from outside of the college.  We’re really excited to access such a wider pool of talent!

You can submit on the site!  It’s easy-peasy.  You’ve never had a better opportunity to get in on the ground floor, and be able to say that you have PUBLISHED work.  Not only do we have the journal but, if we get this thing going again, WE DO A PRINT VERSION AS WELL!  (You can find the first for sale here.)

And our contract is not exclusive!

What does that mean?  It means that if you are published by The Lightkeeper, we don’t keep the rights exclusively!  You’re more than free to continue to look for places to publish your work!  So there’s no need to be afraid to send in something that you’re trying to get published elsewhere–we don’t mind if they don’t.

So please, check out the NMU Lightkeeper.

I know that there are plenty of talented writers and artists out there just waiting for the chance to have others read their work.  And even if you’re not interested in submitting, check it out!  There is some pretty neat content in the archives!

I’m looking forward to reading your work. 🙂
